Does any one know when or if TCM is going HD ?

I'm not 100% certain on how the broadcasting of HD stations works, but wouldn't need TCM need HD masters of their entire library to broadcast that way?

... the only one from Ted Turner owns that is not .

Ted Turner has not owned any of those stations for 12 years.  He sold Turner Entertainment to Time-Warner in 1996.  Ted began selling his stock and announced his intent to leave T-W's Board of Directors in 2002... he left in 2006.

The Turner name was removed from TBS and TNT in the late 1990s, and since then both have only been known by their call letters.  Warner's Turner Entertainment subsidiary, and its Turner Classic Movies station, will eventually remove the Turner name... T-W is moving slowly due to the established "brand" recognition of the 'Turner' name.

The film library is owned by Warner Brothers, ever since Turner Entertainment was sold to Time-Warner in 1996.

so what does Ted Turner own ?

Assuming you refer to Turner Entertainment, here's a news flash...
Ted Turner... sold Turner Entertainment to Time-Warner in 1996.

Turner Entertainment = CNN, Headline News, Turner Classic Movies, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network/Boomerang, Hanna-Barbera, Turner Films, the entire Turner film library, et. al.

Turner Entertainment is owned by Time-Warner, and it has been for over 12 years.  Ted Turner is out of the picture.

Would broadcasting in HD really make a big difference in showing all those old movies?

Offline Sadistic Stooge

yes b/c the old movies that are in wide screen will be shown on HD tv's the right way and not with the bars showing .

if any one has the MGM HD movie channel , when they show old wide screen  U can tell the difference right a way .
