Martin & Lewis - 'The Caddy'
Abbott & Costello - 'Meet.....?' (The one with all of the horror monsters).
Laurel & Hardy - 'Sons of the Desert'

Abbott & Costello - Hold That Ghost
Laurel & Hardy - Sons of the Desert
The Marx Brothers - Horsefeathers
Hope & Crosby - Road to Morocco

I don't know any Olson and Johnson or Burns and Allen films by name, so I'll leave them out of my list.  I've never really cared much for the Ritz Brothers, and I hate Martin and Lewis (especially Lewis.)

Y'know, I probably should get that MEET THE BARON DVD.  I figured it was a minor DVD cashing in on The Three Stooges name, but since Rob and a few others have praised it, and it's pretty cheap, I may pick it up.

I think you'll love it.  The movie would be worth watching just for Jack Pearl, Jimmy Durante, Edna Mae Oliver and Zasu Pitts, but Healy and the Stooges make it even funnier.

Yes it is, def go get it Metal. Plus you get Moe, Larry and Shemp in "Gold Raiders" along with it which is also good. Stooge double feature!
Can't go wrong with that
"Moronica must expand! We must lend our neighbors a helping hand. We must lend them two helping hands, and help ourselves to our neighbors!"
Moe in "You Natzi Spy!"

Larry: Say, when I come back I’ll give you a password.
Moe: Brilliant, what’ll it be?
Larry: Open The Door!

Hmm, I always have a tough time picking one favorite. But I will give it a try.

The Three Stooges - Time Out For Rhythm (Meet the Baron and Myrt and Marge are my other pics. I love them both also.)

Martin & Lewis - Not a fan of theirs, skipping

Abbott & Costello - A&C Meet Frankenstein (Loved watching that one growing up, but I havent seen all their movies yet so this may change someday.)

Laurel & Hardy - Sons of the Desert (Havent seen much of their stuff except that, some of their shorts and March of the Wooden Soldiers when I was young. I liked that too)

The Marx Brothers - Duck Soup (A Night at the Opera comes in a very close second. They're my second fave comedy team after the Stooges. Alot of their movies are very funny.)

WOW , Not Much Love For Martin & Lewis LOL
Well I Got To Say There Movies Were Kind Of Weak . They Were Pretty Much All The Same Stories , But When They Came Out In The 50's They Were All Big Hit . Makes You Think What Did People Find Funny In All There Movies Or Was It Mostly Young Girls Wanting To See Dean On Screen ?

Well Over All I'm Not A Big Fun Of Martin & Lewis . I'm Mainly A Fan Of What Jerry Lewis Put Out After They Broke Up .

Maybe we don't have enough French posters here.   ;D

All kidding aside, I'm on the slightly negative side with Martin and Lewis and Jerry in general, but am open-minded enough to see more of his/their movies.  I also like what little Jerry Lewis solo I've seen a bit better than the team stuff, as it seems less formulaic.

As for MEET THE BARON, I saw the CLASSIC COMEDY TEAMS set at Borders today but passed because I will not spend money on those two Laurel and Hardy turkeys, easily their worst films.  Will probably buy the Stooges and A&C sets seperately.

Three Stooges: Three Stooges in Orbit
Martin and Lewis: Artists and Models
Abbott and Costello: Abbott and Costello Meet Frankentstein
Laurel and Hardy: Blockheads
The Marx Brothers: Duck Soup
Burns and Allen: International House
Hope and Crosby: Road to Morrocco

I have not seen a complete film of the Ritz Bros, but I really like what I have seen. I have seen one Olsen and Johnson film and didn't really care for it all that much.
I think Birdie will go for that!

[rotfl] There's a lot I can comment on about "Deep Throat" but I don't want to start a discussion on that type of movie on this kind of site. Let's just say that I've heard stories/rumors about the way it was filmed.

I have to agree with Rob and the others. I have that DVD and I think "Meet The Baron" is very good movie. The only downfall is that the stooges only appear for a short time. Overall, it's a funny movie.

Now, I have to give you a karma point for that. "Duck Soup" is a hilarious movie. It's definitely the best Marx Brothers movie. For those of you who haven't seen it, I recommend it very highly.

Edit- I read this topic so fast that I didn't realize until now that several other people picked "Duck Soup" as well. So everyone else who picked the movie also got a karma point.

Unfortunately, what Groucho proposed in his song "Just Wait 'Til I Get Through With It" (when he becomes the Prime Minister of Freedonia) became a blueprint for our own politicians in real life:

These are the laws of my administration
    No one's allowed to smoke
    Or tell a dirty joke
    And whistling is forbidden...
    If chewing gum is chewed
    The chewer is pursued.
    And in the hoosegow hidden...
If any form of pleasure is exhibited
Report to me and it will be prohibited.
I'll put my foot down, so shall it be.
This is the land of the free.

The last man nearly ruined this place
He didn't know what to do with it
If you think this country's bad off now
Just wait 'til I get through with it
The country's taxes must be fixed
And I know what to do with it
If you think you're paying too much now
Just wait 'til I get through with it...

I will not stand for anything that's crooked or unfair
I'm strictly on the up and up
    So everyone beware
    If anyone's caught taking graft
And I don't get my share
We stand 'em up against the wall
    And pop goes the weasel.

If any man should come between her husband and his bride
We find out which one she prefers
    By letting her decide
If she prefers the other man
    The husband steps outside
We stand 'em up against the wall
    And pop goes the weasel.

An article about two movies similar in tone to DUCK SOUP made around the same time.  I've seen DIPLOMANIACS, but never MILLION DOLLAR LEGS.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of Martin and Lewis fans out there. I personally think they're great, but I do realize that they did do some horrible films.

My Advice:

Watch:
My Friend Irma
My Friend Irma Goes West
Scared Stiff
Sailor Beware
Pardners
Artists and Models
Hollywood Or Bust

Stay Away From:
That's My Boy
Three Ring Circus
Living It Up
At War With The Army

And for Jerry Solo, I recommend The Bellboy, The Errand Boy, The Ladies Man, The Nutty Professor, and The Disorderly Orderly as watchable films.
I think Birdie will go for that!

LIVING IT UP and AT WAR WITH THE ARMY are two of the four Martin and Lewis films I saw and were awful, while SAILORS BEWARE actually had a few inspired moments (Jerry popping out from the underwater telescope on the submarine was Keatonesque), so you may be onto something.  The best Martin and Lewis stuff I've seen is television footage, which must've been like their stage show.

Jerry Lewis has to be one of the worst comedians ever to make it big. Instead of chuckles he brings out of me the urge to to commit random acts of violence.

The Colgate Comedy Hours with Martin and Lewis are a lot funnier than most of their movies. I would also say that Abbott and Costello's TV show was more genuinely funny than their movies. I think that it proves that Martin and Lewis and A & C both would have been better in shorts. The only team that I think wasn't meant for shorts was The Marx Brothers.
I think Birdie will go for that!
