I have a feeling that the people in charge of TV Land (and Nick At Nite) wouldn't know comedy if it hit them in the face.  Even if it was a pie!

TV Land isn't a classic TV network anymore. Their new output is meant for the baby boomer generation. When TV Land aired the Abbott & Costello Show back in the late 90s/early 00s, I made mention of them picking up the Stooges to air alongside. It was going to be explored once AMC's conrtract lapsed, but at that point A&C was taken off the air anyway.

But, in all irony.. the Stooges can be aired on TV Land if they really wanted to. MTV Networks owns TV Land, as well as Spike TV.. although I wouldn't hold my breath.

Nick at Nite and TV Land used to be so much better. I'm "only" 22 but I want shows like -

Lucy
Munsters
Bewitched
Dream of Jeannie
Wonder Years
All in the Family
Happy Days
Welcome Back Kotter
Adam 12
Dragnet
Dennis the Menace
LITB

Some of those are still on, but now way too much garbage like Designing Women and George Lopez. The more "modern classics" they show, like Roseanne, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince etc are good, but are too accessible elsewhere (TBS, local etc) and don't fit what the channel should be.

I have syndication and TBS for modern sitcoms.

All of those shows aired on N@N and TVL at some point. They're supposed to bring back Get Smart when the movie comes out in June.. I can only hope. That's one of my all-time favorite shows.

Many of those used to be on, but aren't on anymore. One of those shows that I really want on is "Happy Days." Fonzie is the coolest and shouldn't have been taken off the air. Instead TV Land airs garbage now.

Two of my favorite classic shows of all time are Car 54 Where Are You? and the 1966 Batman and neither are available on any network or DVD. There are a ton of shows that need to be on DVD or on TV but are overlooked or companies don't think theres a market for them. I have been waiting all my life to see the Beatles' Cartoons on DVD or TV but so far I haven't heard anyone hint around of that possibility. The Beatles Webstore has an entire section of all Beatles cartoon memoribilia but I've never seen an episode!

Also, I would like to see the Stooges on TCM, where they could finally get the kind of show they deserve, without and parody commercials or hosts with no knowledge of the Stooges at all (Anna Nicole Smith was a good example).
I think Birdie will go for that!

I'd vote for Gilbert Gottfried to host a show like that! Shoot! Now that I think about it, I miss USA's Up All Night when Gilbert would host the pictures on Saturdays. Good times, yes!

Boy, I've missed a ton!!

That really blows!!

However, even though most of us are against the Farelly Brothers' movie, could it be possible that they will speed up the boxed set production in honor of the movie??  That's just some food for thought.  Anyway, we just can't wait much longer for volume 2.

Now that we're on the general 'classic TV' subject, I really enjoy watching this show as well.  I will be happy to see it back on the airwaves, and curious to see how Steve Carell will do as agent 86.  ???

I know that they probably would speed up the process.  I keep using the example of the Dukes Of Hazzard.  Mainly, because I saw this happen.  They started releasing seasons, but not very often.  I think there was nearly a year between releases of season 1 and season 2.  Then, the new movie came out.  They started releasing a season every two months, until all 7 season were released in a short period of time.  Yes, I do believe they did this to cash in on the movie.  A major motion picture can always move product.

I, also, can't wait much longer for volume 2.  Sony is such a tease!

Updated to reflect recent information - currently no volume 2 through 4/8/08.

Offline Three Stooges 4Life

I cant said the wait!!  Maybe sony is putting the finishing touches on volume 2 and just hasnt decided yet on what date they want to release it, im still thinking it will be released before the summer.  how many months ahead of time did they show the release date for volume 1??

Sony- we're waitin.'  You can give us volume 2 any day now.

"Hurry, hurry! I can Hardly wait!"    [3stooges]

I agree - we're looking at least 5-6 months per release and that is simply too long if they're only doing 2-3 years at a time. Either speed it up or give us more years at a time.

Offline ProfessorStooge

Us Stooge fans cannot wait at least 5-6 months for the next DVD volume to be released. When Amazon.com had Volume 1 up for pre-order, the sales rank was in the double digits, meaning good sales. That should've gotten Sony's attention. The next volume would've been up for pre-order 1-2 months after volume 1 was released. One possible reason I think Volume 2 is not on Sony's upcoming schedule is the addition of bonus features. There may be a number of them. That's just my guess.

I almost wish that another company was doing the DVD sets now, since Sony isn't giving the Stooges the attention that they deserve.  We're almost at the 3 month mark since Volume 1 was released!

If Sony sits on their hands for too long, I'll just stop thinking about their DVD sets and spend my money on other hobbies.

Ditto.  I wish Legend Films could release more.  Didn't they once show the colorized "Out West" on their website?  Being this one is not in the public domain, couldn't they do more?

As long as we can still play the B&W versions, I don't really care what the color looks like.  That's just something to ponder.

Anyway, it's high time Sony got goin' with volume 2, before we all waste away.

That's exactly what I'm doing now. The gap between Volume 1 and 2 is too big that I'm at the point where I've given up with Sony. Just when I thought they were getting better by releasing these sets, they had to spoil it by not releasing them in a timely manner. So, I decided to stop waiting and spend my money on other DVDs I like.

IMO, when we heard that vol. 2 was "On the table", that meant Sony was going to see how vol. 1 did before green lighting the production of vol. 2. Now assuming Sony was satisfied with the sales of their (still) unmarketed product (vol. 1), I imagine it would take several months to "clean up" and produce vol. 2 to be of similar quality.

Sorry I've been away from the boards over the last month, but I have had quite a bit going on!

I share your frustrations regarding Sony's inconsistencies in handling the Stooges. The last time I heard from the contact I have there (in the PR department), volume 2 was, indeed, "on the table." Sony must be happy with the sales of volume 1, even though I could NOT get actual sales figures from them. It is still selling well on Amazon.

I'm sure we will see a second volume, but how long Sony will wait to release it (and subsequent sets) remains to be seen.

I have forwarded all responses that those of you left to Sony. All we can do now, sadly, is wait. Our boys and their fans deserve better treatment. I have no idea what makes the powers that be at Sony HQ do what they do. It sure doesn't seem to make much sense from my viewpoint.

As soon as I hear from my contact and get the official press release, I will post it here ASAP! I can only hope they are preparing the restoration process for this 2nd set as of this writing and make the announcement official in the next month or two.

What the heck is the delay?!?!  >:(

It's been a long time since volume 1 was released.  That was a smash hit. This is all the more reason for them to get going with volume 2.  I'm getting sick and tired of waiting for Sony.

I'm in the "Moving On" part of this whole joke that Sony seems to be giving to Stooges fans.

My money is going to other DVD sets that are out already (that I still needed), or for new ones that actually come out in a few months time per season.

I won't come back to the Sony sets UNTIL they have a few Volumes out.  This way, I can buy one, and then know that more are still there to buy.

If Sony keeps this type of importance up for the Stooges, we'll never see all 190 shorts released in Volume form.   >:D
