As I mentioned in a previous post, I was vacationing in Las Vegas this week. I mention this because, while I was there with my parents, the Strip said goodbye to an important part of it's history. The New Frontier hotel/casino was imploded on the morning of Tuesday, November 13th at 2:30AM. I was there as one of the many onlookers on-hand to bid farewell to this historic part of Vegas history. The implosion was preceeded by some fireworks. Watch below!

The New Frontier dates back to the early-1940s. It was only the second hotel/casino on the Strip, and the first with a theme. It hosted Elvis Presley's Las Vegas debut when he spent two weeks there in 1956. It was also the original home for Sigfried and Roy, who later took up permanent residence at the Mirage.
Here's some classic footage of the New Frontier and the Vegas Strip from 1976. It's short, but you do get to see the outside of the New Frontier in it's heyday.

Here's a montage of the Top 10 Las Vegas implosions. I guess now you can add the New Frontier to this list.
