I can't resist contributing to this topic (even though it's not Stooge related). As a professional DJ for thirty years, I've heard my share of REALLY BAD SONGS!!
I'm going to go John Cusack from "High Fidelity" here and list my top 10:
1. You're Having My Baby/Paul Anka
2. Muskrat Love/Captain & Tennille or America's version
3. Playground In My Mind/Clint Holmes
4. Billy, Don't Be A Hero/Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods
5. Bread And Butter/The Newbeats
6. Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb/Edd "Kookie" Byrnds and Connie Stevens
7. The Girl is Mine/Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney
8. Run, Joey, Run/David Geddes
9. Brand New Key/Melanie
10. The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia/Vicki Lawrence
Runner ups:
Afternoon Delight/Starland Vocal Band
Simon Says/1910 Fruitgum Company
All were huge hits for some unexplainable reason.
Of course, there are so many others, but these have that nails on a chalkboard effect. The Starship song is bad, to be sure, but nothing compares to these train wrecks!!
All of these songs are the equivalent of "Plan 9 From Outer Space" in the music world. For those of you too young to have heard any of these, you owe it to yourself to check them out. If anyone gives you a hard time about the hip hop/rap being bad (and there are many here as well), just use these songs in your defense and you'll win your argument hands down!!
