This topic isn't a nitpick - just an observation about certain tunes, particularly, songs that reference or use lyrics from other songs.
For instance, Tom Petty had a hit tune with Runnin' Down a Dream, and the first verse goes ...
It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was drivin'
The trees went by, me and Del were singin'
Little Runaway, I was flyin'

Also, perhaps one of the most "other-song-referenced" laden tunes - one MUST include Ricky Nelson's song Garden Party ... here are a few verses of that tune:

People came from miles around, everyone was there
Yoko brought her walrus, there was magic in the air
Over in the corner, much to my surprise
Mr. Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes wearing his disguise

Played them all the old songs, thought that's why they came
No one heard the music, we didn't look the same
I said hello to Mary Lou, she belongs to me
When I sang a song about a honky-tonk, it was time to leave

Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell
and lookin' like he should
If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck
But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck

I'm sure there are a butt-load more out there for us to dig up and converse about ...

The tacks won't come out! Well, they went in ... maybe they're income tacks.

"Radio's playin' some forgotten song, Brenda Lee's 'Comin' On Strong'"--Golden Earring, "Radar Love"

"Eight track machine playing 'Half Moon Bay'"--Mott The Hoople, "Drivin' Sister"

"I hope Neil Young will remember, a 'Southern Man' don't need him around anyhow"--Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Sweet Home Alabama"

Plus, keep in mind that Reunion's "Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)" contains a ton of references in it...

Game starts in 2006, now's as good a time as ever to begin.

These are messages to Paul McCartney from George Harrison and John Lennon

We all know "ob-la-di-bla-da,"
But can you show me where you are?

Savoy Truffle - The Beatles

The only thing you did was "yesterday,"
And since your gone you're just "another day,"

How Do You Sleep? - John Lennon

I don't remember where it comes from exactly, but I know a John Lennon-sung song has "So Sergeant Pepper caught you by surprise" in it.

And while on that, Johnny Rivers' "Summer Rain" has the line about "And the jukebox kept on playin' 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'"...

Same artist/song reference from 2 different artists:

"The screen door slams, Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only..."

Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road

"I had a little bit too much to drink, I had a sad song on my mind
The man was singin' Only The Lonely, I could swear the song was mine..."

Michael Burks - One More Chance

Arthur Conley's "Sweet Soul Music" makes a number of references to artists such as Wilson Pickett and his "Mustang Sally", Lou Rawls-"Love Is A Hurting Thing", Sam And Dave and "Hold On, I'm Coming" as well as other examples.
