ABBOTT AND COSTELLO KIDS SHOW, THE

Air Date/Released Saturday, February 5, 1949
Station/Studio ABC (radio)
Host/Star Abbott & Costello
Featuring Joe Besser (Solo)

In addition to their weekly nightime radio show, Bud Abbott & Lou Costello hosted a Saturday morning show for children from December 1947 to March 1949. In honor of Lou's late son, each episode awarded a Lou Costello Jr. Trophy For Good Citizenship to a deserving child. Costello's creation of this radio show was in large part due to his charity efforts and 1947 opening of the Lou Costello Jr. Youth Center in East Los Angeles. ABC donated the airtime as a public service.

Radio listings for Saturday, February 5, 1949 announced that Joe Besser and emcee Jay Stewart would guest host that morning's episode while Bud & Lou were on the east coast for a Lou Costello Junior Youth Foundation benefit.

Additional episode details are unavailable at this time.

Per Chris Costello in her book Lou's on First (1981 St. Martin's Press), Joe Besser also substituted for an ill Lou in one of the show's final March 1949 episodes.

Cast: Joe Besser, Jay Stewart, Johnny McGovern (Announcer)
