COMMAND PERFORMANCE - # 109

Air Date/Released Saturday, March 4, 1944
Station/Studio Armed Forces Radio
Host/Star Kate Smith
Featuring Joe DeRita (Solo)

Stars and celebrities donated their time to this AFRS program, performing music, songs, comedy, recitations, etc., to the requests of our troops overseas in Europe and the Pacific.

This episode is dedicated to the establishment of an AFRS radio station on Guadalcanal. Host Kate Smith opens with "San Fernando Valley." Billy Gilbert joins Kate for some comic wordplay, and then lectures on his trademark specialty... types of sneezes. Jimmy Wakely sings a blues number, and joins Spade Cooley for some bluegrass jamming. Child violinist Saundra Berkova is accompanied by her father, pianist Marvin Moazel, for some classical music. Back from a USO trip to Guadalcanal, actor Randolph Scott and his comic sidekick Joe DeRita engage in banter and wisecracks. Closing out the ½-hour, Kate sings "People Will Say We're in Love" from the Broadway show OKLAHOMA.

Cast: Kate Smith (Host), Ken Carpenter (Announcer), Joe DeRita, Randolph Scott, Billy Gilbert, Jimmy Wakely, Spade Cooley, Saundra Berkova, Marvin Moazel, Jack Miller (Conductor)
