Joey Barnes hosts a network, late-night New York talk show. Episodes revolve around his professional and personal life, with celebrities appearing as themselves. At home are Joey's beautiful wife Ellie, and maid Hilda. Joe Besser costars as Mr. Jillson, the building superintendent, a high-strung man with a heart of gold, and a never-seen wife who is only heard yelling "Jillson!" through the building's ventilation system. Rounding out the main characters is Larry Corbett, Joey's best friend, head writer and manager.
Joey is a proud honor graduate of the Expectant Fathers School, appointed Class Vale-Diaper-torian, and anxious to brag about his accomplishment. He takes over the Barnes household as a "know-it-all" baby expert, until Larry challenges him to prove his expertise.
