Joey Barnes hosts a CBS Sunday night variety show from New York. Episodes revolve around his professional and personal life, with celebrities appearing as themselves. At home are Joey's beautiful wife Abby, and maid Hilda. Joe Besser costars as Mr. Jillson, the barely competent apartment building superintendent, a high-strung man with a heart of gold. Rounding out the main characters is Larry Corbett, Joey's best friend, head writer and manager.

Larry has fallen in love with the Barnes' houseguest Liz, but his overactive imagination and self-image of "professional bachelor" soon convince him that he's being pushed into marriage. After Joey and Ellie break the news to Liz on his behalf, Larry has a change of heart.
