Joey Barnes hosts a CBS Sunday night variety show from New York. Episodes revolve around his professional and personal life, with celebrities appearing as themselves. At home are Joey's beautiful wife Abby, and maid Hilda. Joe Besser costars as Mr. Jillson, the barely competent apartment building superintendent, a high-strung man with a heart of gold. Rounding out the main characters is Larry Corbett, Joey's best friend, head writer and manager.
Joey's comic discovery Jackie Clark, aka Jackie Schwartz, is a huge success on Joey's show, and immediately booked by the Copacabana. But after Jackie quits his job at the post office, his mother objects and insists he stay out of show business. The Barnes and Larry intervene to try and change her mind.
