Bud Abbott and Lou Costello preserved the art of burlesque with their stage personas and virtually perfect timing, in the 1st season of their syndicated sitcom. Bud and Lou basically play themselves as unemployed comics residing in Mr. Fields' boarding house. A&C spend each day avoiding Fields' demand for back rent, while welcoming a cast of regular and guest characters, who join them in a rapid-fire parade of burlesque jokes and routines.
Perennially jobless Bud and Lou go to Mr. Fields' brother's employment agency for a job, and Lou becomes a vacuum cleaner salesman. Lou's salesmanship leaves a lot to be desired, especially when he tries to sell a machine in a house with no electricity. Joe Besser ('Stinky') appears to reprise his classic AFRICA SCREAMS gag of "my room is on fire!"
Jean Yarbrough (Producer and Director), Sidney Fields (Writer), Pat Costello (Executive Producer)
