William Hanna and Joe Barbera capitalized on America's football craze with this primetime, summer animated series. Loosely adapting the format of THE HONEYMOONERS, which they had successfully done ten years earlier with THE FLINTSTONES. Hanna-Barbera produced this sitcom about two best friends, next-door-neighbors and pro football players for the Rhinos. Plots involved football, as well as the boys' personal lives with loving and long-suffering wives, and conflicts with their uptight, sports-hating neighbor Mr. Pertwee.
1/2-hour film of storyboard sketches with an audio track that was presented to CBS as a pilot episode for the series. The pilot features some cast members who did not continue with the series... Nancy Kulp as 'Penny McCoy' was replaced by Marie Wilson, and Joe Besser as 'Coach' was replaced by Alan Reed. Also, Herb Jeffries' character was renamed 'Freight Train.' This pilot film was finished with an updated audio track, with Reed replacing Besser, and aired as "The Ramblin' Wreck' on July 15, 1970.
