The African nation Zamunda’s Prince Akeem rejects his pre-arranged marriage, and heads for America with his valet Semmi to find a true love in NYC. Posing as exchange students, the two try to fit in with their adopted Queens neighbors as Akeem searches for his soulmate.
Lisa McDowell, Akeem’s hope-for love, discovers his true identity and runs away from him. As he trails her into the subway, shown is a movie poster on the tube wall promoting SEE YOU NEXT WEDNESDAY. Among the stars of that “film” is the name Moe Howard.
The fictional film SEE YOU NEXT WEDNESDAY was the title of an unfinished, early 1970s screenplay by director John Landis. Becoming an in-joke of Landis’, the title cameos on posters and marquees in most of his films.
