SCTV NETWORK 90 - Johnny LaRue's Discount Deprive-O-Rama

Air Date/Released Saturday, June 5, 1982
Station/Studio NBC / Canwest TV Net

A spin-off of Chicago's Second City, the Canadian troupe became the most well-known after launching their own television show in Canada, and once it received US syndication, it rivaled SNL in popularity. Like SNL, many cast members went on to successful film and TV acting careers. After the U.S. syndication success of the Canadian episodes, NBC picked up the show for a 90-minute edition that ran from 1981 - 1983, SCTV NETWORK 90.

In the spoof commercial for “Johnny LaRue’s Discount Deprive-O-Rama,” LaRue hawks his line of sensory deprivation tanks. Entering a tank for a demonstration, we find Johnny greeted by a party bunny and achieving his sensory deprivation by watching a Three Stooges short on a tank entertainment center.
