Korean vet and new widower Walt Kowalski finds himself out of touch with the times, a bitter senior citizen living in a run-down Detroit neighborhood who cannot get along with his family or neighbors. He stops a Korean teen neighbor named Thao from stealing his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, and unexpectedly finds himself mentoring the youth who is being pressured into joining a local gang.
Walt talks to Thao when the boy is clueless about a young girl who is interested in him...
Walt: She likes you, you know? Though I don't know why!
Thao: Who?
Walt: Yum Yum. You know, the girl in the purple sweater. She's been looking at you all day, stupid!
Thao: You mean Youa?
Walt: Yeah... Yum Yum... yeah... nice girl... nice girl, very charming girl... I talked with her... yeah. But you, you just let her walk right out with the Three Stooges.
