SECOND CITY TV - Alfred Hitchcock Presents

A spin-off of Chicago's Second City, the Canadian troupe became the most well-known after launching their own television show in Canada, and once it received US syndication, it rivaled SNL in popularity. Like SNL, many cast members went on to successful film and TV acting careers.

In this sketch, the cast lampoons the TV series ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, with John Candy in the host role of Alfred Hitchcock presenting the episode "Murder Can Be Bad For Your Health." Andrea Martin and Joe Flaherty also appear in the faux episode, satirizing a typical Hitchcock thriller. Closing out his segment, Candy's Hitchcock begins describing the plots of PSYCHO and THE BIRDS, devolving into a frantic dervish and becoming Curly Howard, dropping down several times to do Curly's floor spin.


After the U.S. syndication success of the Canadian episodes, NBC picked up the show for a 90-minute edition that ran from 1981 - 1983, SCTV NETWORK 90. The HITCHCOCK skit encored on NBC's Feb. 19, 1982 episode.
