Featuring Joe Besser (Solo)
118 min. (Feature Film)
Billionaire playboy Jean-Marc Clement (Yves Montand) plans to stop an off-Broadway satirical musical based on his life, but his new PR man (Tony Randall) convinces him to visit a rehearsal and show that he has a sense of humor. But not only is Jean smitten with star Amanda Dell (Marilyn Monroe), he's mistaken for one of the actors auditioning to play himself. To be near Amanda, he allows himself to be hired, and joins the cast as Alex Dumas. Jean fears that love won't come as easily to an "average guy," as it would to someone with an unlimited bank account, so he sets up his business manager John Wales (Wilfrid Hyde-White) as the show's majority investor. With Wales calling the shots, "Alex" receives spotlight roles in the musical, allowing him to spend more time with Amanda. And to compensate for his lack of talent, Clement hires Milton Berle, Bing Crosby and Gene Kelly to tutor him in comedy, song and dance. But if he succeeds in having Amanda fall in love with "Alex," how will she feel when she learns his true identity?
Joe Besser costars as Charlie Lamont, a professional joke writer. Filmed in DeLuxe Color and CinemaScope.
