A pleasant Sunday visit to the Bumsteads' new neighbor goes wrong when Dagwood (Arthur Lake) accidentally wrecks Mr. Conroy's car and garage. Conroy wastes no time filing a lawsuit against Dagwood, and hiring a near-sighted process server (Shemp Howard) to serve a subpoena.

Mr. Dithers (Jonathan Hale) learns that the man he just had an argument with is actually Charles Peabody (Jerome Cowan), a prospective client whose construction contract will save Dithers' failing company. So Mr. Dithers and Dagwood change places, with Dagwood aka "J. C. Dithers" entertaining Peabody at a local nightclub, to Blondie's (Penny Singleton) displeasure. Meanwhile, the process server continues to close in on Dagwood, which threatens to expose the identity switch.

Based on the comic strip characters created by Chic Young. The "Blondie" movie series was very popular and a financial success for Columbia, 28 films from 1938 - 1950. This was Ed Bernds' first "Blondie" credit, and he went on to both write and direct several more series installments over the following 4 years.
