Terry Kelly is leaving for college, and Ma Kelly and Uncle Pat invite his friends and sweetheart Kitty to the house for a going-away party. The bigger surprise is Uncle Pat's gift of $1400 for Terry's tuition, money he earned promoting Terry as an amateur boxer. Accompanying Terry and Kitty's school friends to the party is Diggins, Terry's rival for Kitty's affections. After an argument, Diggins takes off... with the envelope containing Pat's gift. The kids track Diggins down at Regan's Road House, and a brawl breaks out.
Although heavier on story focus than the usual Columbia short subject, Jules White still managed to fill PLEASED TO MITT YOU with many of his regular roster of sight gags, particularly the "pot holder in the cake" which takes up a couple minutes of screen time. The preceding introductory short, THE GLOVE SLINGERS (1939), cast 30-ish actors like Cy Schindell and Noah Beery Jr. as the main characters, aged 20-something. In this second episode, time is peeled back as 20-ish actors take on high school senior roles. The remainder of the "Glove Slingers" series takes place during the characters' college days.
The 2nd entry in Columbia's "Glove Slingers," but Shemp's last involvement in the series. After casting Samuel Horwitz as the "Glove Slingers'" Irish-Catholic 'Uncle Pat Patrick'... Jules White should never be accused of type-casting.
