Featuring Ted Healy (Solo)
84 min. (Feature Film)
Ted Healy was cast in the film, shot some scenes, but does not appear in the released product. The Breen office did not approve of the film's treatment of a love affair, and requested edits and reshot scenes. As a result, several actors' scenes were left on the cutting room floor, Healy and Ed Brophy among them.
Jeff Williams (Clark Gable) returns from several years in Europe, to propose to the woman he loves, Mary Clay (Joan Crawford). But it's the eve of her wedding to the man she's loved since childhood, Dillon Todd (Robert Montgomery). Enter a woman that Dillon once had an affair with, and Mary is heartbroken to learn that she's been left at the altar. Leaning on Jeff for strength and friendship, Mary is oblivious to his feelings. When she discovers that the Todds' marriage is not a happy one, Dill and Mary begin an illicit relationship. The vindictive Mrs. Todd is determined to embarrass Mary publicly, and Jeff steps in to save Mary and Dill's reputations in spite of his feelings. But, maybe he'll learn that nice guys can finish first.
