Became a screenwriter, best-known for some of Clint Eastwood's films, e.g., HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, DIRTY HARRY, PLAY MISTY FOR ME, and the TV mini-series RICH MAN, POOR MAN.<p>An actor in his younger days, Dean worked with Ted Healy in IT'S IN THE AIR (1935).
