Native American who achieved fame as a medalist at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm Sweden... only to be stripped of the honors when it was revealed that he had earlier been paid as an amateur athlete. Played professional football as a halfback, and became a character actor, and consultant on sport-themed films like KNUTE ROCKNE, ALL-AMERICAN. He was portrayed by Burt Lancaster in JIM THORPE, ALL-AMERICAN (1951).
