Joined Jack Benny's radio cast as 'Rochester Van Jones' in 1937, and continued in that role thru Benny's TV years up to 1974.

Apart from Benny, he also has prominent film credits in YOU CAN'T CHEAT AN HONEST MAN (1939) with W. C. Fields, GONE WITH THE WIND (1939), CABIN IN THE SKY (1943), SHOW BOAT (1936), GREEN PASTURES (1937), JEZEBEL (1938), Frank Capra's YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU (1938), and more, including of course IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD (1963).
